A sketchbook that stores and retrieves memories according to real world situations - a concept for an application for Sony PSP

The digital sketchbook stores sketches to a data base organized according to real world meta data such as location, nearby people , and the weather conditions. To retrieve a sketch, users 'recreate' the scene in which the sketch was conceived.

With time, users can see who, where or what inspired them. Enthusiastic users can store special secrets in chosen locations, for example, near a tree in the middle of the park.

Contextual Memory

We started with the idea of giving a digital form to the classic sketchbook. We conducted a user study to learn where and how people store and retrieve their sketches.

Collecting Information

The application automatically records the data using device hardware - such as GPS or bluetooth. Using the time and location stamp, it also links any relevant data from the Internet.

UI Design for SonyPSP

We created a two screen interface for for SonyPSP with one area for storing sketches and the other area for editing and displaying of the meta data scenario surrounding the sketch.

The Meta Data Scenario

The meta data scenario forms automatically. It includes icons of people and locations, which users can then personalize by using annotations. When users recreate the scene by dragging and dropping icons, relevant sketches appear.
